About
Why?
To understand better the reason for creating this idea, it is good to know the origin first.
Origin
There is a transition from the analog to the digital cockpit, a transition that began approximately 10 years ago in top-level brands (together with the first infotainment systems). With the pass of the years, they have become popular and evolved, and now we can find them in more accessible vehicles.
But this transition could provide more value than it currently does, that is, it does not provide enough value when is compared with other advanced systems, such as driver assistance systems or infotainment systems.
Two years ago was born a new idea to exploit the resources that can be implemented in the car’s digital cockpit to create a new and unique experience between driver and car.
The Driver Display Concept was born.
The reasons
01
The information displayed in the analog cockpit is practically the same in all digital cockpits.
In addition to GPS, multimedia information and other data that can be differential, most of the cockpits show the same information as in an analog one, but with a high definition display.
02
It does not bring relevant changes in terms of safety, driving and comfort.
Today the digital cockpit allows you to change the settings, but it has to be done manually, and this can be distracting. Safety is not being the main task of a digital cockpit, but it must be taken into account to provide extra safety that results in comfortable and reliable driving.
03
The configuration options are limited and the frequency of change is minimal.
The configuration options are usually very small and that nobody normally changes. This is because you have to change it manually and it can affect your security.
04
The change to a digital cockpit is irrelevant from the point of view of the sales process or media impact.
Many times the reviews focus more on the news and operations of the infotainment system, the ADAS systems, the design of the car or the powertrain instead of the digital cockpit, of which they only make a quick mention.
05
No real difference from the competition is proposed.
Graphics and processing are improved, but they do not offer an exclusive functionality in which a cockpit can stand out from the rest.
Conclusion
1. The driver does not feel complete integration or harmony with his digital cockpit.
2. The options of a jump that could be giant are being wasted.
